“Ballast is what I want. I totter with every breeze” – John Adams
I came across this quote from John Adams in his biography written by David McCullough. While I don’t have all that much in common with the founding father – one of the most influential men in American history – (despite the devilishly good looks) I certainly can relate to this nautical quote from a letter to his wife.
Take this blog for example! It would be easy for me to say I cannot write here more often because, “there’s not enough time in the day” – but in truth, my head is always marching off to the next thing that appeals to me – a new book, show, hobby, whatever – there’s nothing stopping me from writing a story or finally teaching myself to draw other than a lack of focus and determination.
The ballast I am hoping for is just that – a little self-control, and sticking to a plan for a week, a month, a year.
With that, I declare….changes are being made! Each week, as bounce from one hobby/book/article to the next, I am to collect a few sentences on what I learned from each and report back here – of course, including a quote of the week.
Let’s see how long I last until the next breeze pushes me in a new direction. I pay for this web domain, dammit – I might as well get it’s worth.
Love it Mark.
Some men see blogs as they are, and ask why. You dream of blogs that never were, and ask why not.
